Pippa Holmes

Please welcome our first ever spotlight player, Pippa Holmes.

We asked Pippa some questions to get to know her better. Here's what she had to say:

  • WHA: Hi Pippa, it's great to meet you. We've seen you play several times before but for those that don't know you, what position do you play?

  • Pippa: I am a goalie with the Soo Jr. Greyhounds.

  • WHA: What Number do you wear?

  • Pippa: I wear number 31 but my favourite number is actually 6.

  • WHA: Who is your favourite hockey player?

  • Pippa: My favourite player is Hayley Wickenheiser.

  • WHA: That's awesome! She is amazing! Is she the reason you started playing hockey?

  • Pippa: I started playing hockey in 2015. The first time I stepped on the ice I knew I would love it forever. I have watched hockey my whole life and have always dreamed of making a career out of it. My brother was a goalie and I’ve watched him play since I was a baby never missing any of his practices or games. From that moment I knew I wanted to be a goalie.

  • WHA: What is your favourite part about playing hockey?

  • Pippa: What I like best about hockey is just stepping out on the ice and trying my best. I also like spending time with my teammates and of course winning.

  • WHA: Yes, winning certainly is great. Even better when you get to do it with your friends and teammates. So, tell us a little bit about your hockey career so far!

  • Pippa: Since I started hockey I always knew I wanted to be a goalie. There was just something about getting in the net and saving shots. People think I’m crazy for wanting to be a goalie but I couldn’t imagine being anything else. One of my favourite memories of hockey so far is probably a tournament I played in in Sudbury. We may have finished in 2nd place but I feel I played my personal best and made a lot of awesome saves.

  • WHA: What do you think you bring to the sport that would encourage other girls to play hockey?

  • Pippa: Every time I step on the ice I give it my all. It doesn’t matter if it is an early morning practice or a weekend game I always give 100 percent. My advice to young girls thinking of playing hockey is if you have a dream of playing hockey never give up on it. Keep pushing until all your dreams come true.

Thank you so much to Pippa. You've spoken some wise words. If you're out in the rink and you see Pippa, make sure to say hi! Dream big girls!
